Why rent a car in Ibiza
Ibiza is bigger and more varied than most people expect. The south has the famous beaches and the nightlife, the north is quiet and green with hidden coves, and in the west you watch the sun set behind the Es Vedra rock.
Places like Cala Comte, Cala d'Hort, Cala Salada and the Ses Salines salt flats are far easier to reach with your own car. You are not tied to bus timetables, you can be at the prettiest calas early, and you never have to queue for a taxi at night. If you want to really see the island, a car is the most practical choice.

Where to pick up your car
Most travellers collect their car at Ibiza Airport (IBZ). The rental desks are in the arrivals hall and it is quick, because the airport is small. You can also pick up in Ibiza Town, San Antonio, Santa Eulalia or Playa d'en Bossa. For most holidays, collecting at the airport is the easiest option.

The price depends heavily on the season and on how early you book. The guide prices below are for a small manual car with full insurance.

Insurance and excess
Third-party liability is always included in the rental, but damage to the car itself is not automatically covered. In Ibiza the excess can run to somewhere between €900 and €1,500. Standard cover often excludes damage to tyres, windows, the underside, the roof and the key. An all-in deal saves you an argument at the desk.

The vehicle limit in 2026
From 1 June to 30 September, Ibiza caps the number of cars on the island. A maximum of 17,668 non-resident vehicles may be on the road each day, of which 14,000 are rental cars. If you rent in Ibiza, the rental company arranges the permit. The cap makes rental cars scarcer in summer, so book early.

Driving and parking in brief
Driving in Ibiza is straightforward: you drive on the right and the main roads are good. Built-up areas are usually 50 km/h, open roads 90 km/h and dual carriageways 100 to 120 km/h. A blue parking line means paid, white is free and yellow means no parking.
